Packing for a vacay can feel overwhelming, but don't stress - figuring out what to bring on your Barbados trip just got a whole lot easier. As a Bajan local and seasoned traveler myself, I've put together a packing list with all the essentials you'll need for your sunny escape. Trust me, with this guide, you'll have everything you need and you'll be ready to soak up the Bajan sunshine in no time.

Pro Packing Tip: Use Packing Cubes!
Packing cubes are a travel game-changer! These handy organisers help you compress your clothes and create separate compartments within your suitcase, making it easier to find what you need.Roll your clothes to save space, and organise your items by outfit, type, or day. Trust me, it'll make packing and unpacking SO much easier! I've used this Veken 8-piece set on my past few trips and would definitely recommend. I especially like that the set came with a hanging bag for my toiletries, as well as a shoe pouch!
Travel Essentials:
Passport and travel documents: Essential for entry and identification. It's always a good idea to print off your boarding passes and itineraries so that you have a physical copy!
Driver’s License: Important for if you're renting a car!
Cash and credit/debit cards: Barbados accepts both. Our local currency is the Barbados Dollar (BBD), however US dollars are generally accepted at a rate of 2:1.
Phone & phone charger
Travel adapter: Check the plug type that you'd need before you go. Remember, Barbados operates on a 115V supply voltage and 50Hz, and uses the same types of plugs as used in the US.
Medication: Bring any necessary prescriptions.
Clothing, Footwear & Accessories
Barbados boasts a warm, tropical climate, so pack accordingly. Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen or quick-dry materials that will keep you cool and comfortable. Also, when it comes to shoes, the key is to pack versatile footwear that can be easily mixed and matched with your outfits.
Lightweight, breathable fabrics: Opt for cotton, linen, or quick-dry materials.
Shorts, tank tops and t-shirts: Casual wear for daytime activities.
Dresses or skirts: Perfect for evenings and dinners.
One dressier outfit: For upscale restaurants, or special occasions.
Comfortable walking shoes
Flip-flops or sandals: Beach and casual wear.
Sneakers: if you want to go on hikes
Underwear and socks
Tote bag
Clutch or wristlet: perfect for evenings out!
Beach and Water Gear
Swimwear: Pack multiple options for various activities.
Cover-up: A sarong or beach kimono is perfect for a casual cover-up to move from the beach to nearby establishments. Remember, many restaurants and shops have dress codes, so it's advisable to cover up when venturing outside of the beach area.
Hat: Protect your face and hair from the sun.
Sunglasses: A pair is absolutely essential for shielding your eyes from the bright sun.
Sunscreen: I can't stress this enough, don't forget to use a good sunblock while here! High SPF is a must.
Beach towel: While many hotels and guest houses provide them, it doesn't hurt to consider bringing your own.
Waterproof phone case: Protect your phone while enjoying water activities.
Snorkel gear: If you're into snorkeling, bring your own or rent it on the island.
Toiletries & Personal Care
Sunscreen: Yes, I've put this on the list again - I can’t emphasise this enough!
Deodorant: Gotta stay fresh on these hot days!
Bug repellent: Protect yourself from too-friendly mosquitoes and sandflies.
Bug Bite Thing: Prone to insect bites? I recommend picking up a suction tool like the Bug Bite Thing to help reduce swollen, itchy bites!
Travel-sized toiletries: To save space, opt for travel-sized versions of your favourite products!
Basic makeup essentials
Feminine hygiene products (if needed)
Skincare products: Sunscreen is a must, but don't forget your daily moisturizer, toner, body lotion and any specific skincare products you use.
Hair care products: shampoo, conditioner, etc.
Body wash
Oral Hygiene: Bring your toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash.
Lip balm: I especially recommend looking for one with SPF. Nobody wants any dry, chapped lips while on vacay!
Other Essentials to Consider
Portable charger or power bank - just in case your phone dies while you’re out and about. I take mine with me
Underwater camera (optional): For capturing marine life.
Reading material or e-reader: For the ultimate relaxation, of course!
Reusable water bottle - If possible, consider bringing a stainless steel water bottle . These are especially great as they’ll keep your water cold all day long. The ice will last for hours!
Remember, packing light is key for a stress-free vacation - don't fall victim to the overpacking bug! Consider doing laundry during your stay to avoid overpacking.
